Tiempo de abandonarse al boho, looks casuales, bufandas y abundantes accesorios, estilo libre. Y por supuesto, una notoria oda al hipster en forma de gafas de pasta carey, gruesas y redondas. Joven, bonito, con clase y sobre todo ponible; nos rendimos al hombre boho-nerd.

There can't be a men collections week without a good dose of classic, gentleman-like outfits and reinventions of the suit, shirt and vest. We have seen beautifully tailored, elegant suits from Kilgour, Gieves & Hawkes or Hardy Amies. But the trend that takes over our hearts this season is the comfy version of all those classics. Lose trousers, light, flowy fabrics, oversized jackets and vests, all combined with a relaxed attitude and also fitting into the boho-nerd trend.

No puede existir una semana de la moda masculina sin una buena dosis de conjuntos clásicos y elegantes, y reinvenciones del traje de chaqueta, camisa y chaleco. Hemos visto trajes de sastrería impecable de la mano de Kilgour, Gieves & Hawkes o Hardy Amies entre otros. Pero la tendencia que nos ha robado el corazón esta temporada es la versión cómoda de todos esos clásicos. It's been around us for a few seasons now and it's going nowhere: the military uniforms and aesthetics still captivate the most creative of designers. Take for instance Sarah Burton and her collection for Alexander McQueen: inspired by the centenary of World War I, many of her looks had clear references to army garments and colours, which also inspired many of the collections we've seen these days.

Lleva presente varias temporadas y no se va a ninguna parte: los uniformes y estética militares aún cautivan a los diseñadores más creativos. Tomemos a Sarah Burton por ejemplo, y su colección para Alexander McQueen: inspirada en el centenario de la Primera Guerra Mundial, muchos de sus looks hacían claras referencias a prendas y colores militares, que también han inspirado muchas de las colecciones que hemos visto estos días.

Something has been stated during this LCM week and it is, prints are not only for Summer. A fearless combination of animal and flower prints, mosaics, paisley, denim and ocasionally, also fur, sets the pace for a not-at-all-boring Winter.

Si algo ha quedado claro durante la LCM es que los estampados no sólo son para el verano. Una arriesgada combinación de estampados florales y animal print, mosaicos, estampado de cachemir, tela vaquera y en ocasiones hasta pelo, abren camino para un invierno nada aburrido.

TEXTURES / TEXTURAS

It may not seem like much of a revelation that the main current for next winter involves knitwear, sheepskin, wool and fur. What is remarkable is, they are present in their most pure, raw form, wild, big, cosy, warm. And they are EVERYWHERE. Outfits built with woolen trousers, thick knit sweaters, fluffy, big jackets, sheep vests, XXL overcoats and infinite scarves were the common theme tying all the shows together. They are undeniable protagonists of next season, but share stage with texture like vinyl and neoprene, and soft, printed tartan fabrics.

Puede parecer poco revelador que la tendencia principal para el próximo invierno incluye el punto, piel de borrego, lana y pelo. Lo que sí cabe destacar es que están presentes en su forma más pura, salvaje, cálida y a lo grande. Y están POR TODAS PARTES. Looks constituidos de pantalones de lana, jerseys de punto grueso, chaquetas enormes y esponjosas, chalecos de borreguito, abrigos XXL y bufandas infinitas fueron la temática común que conectó todas las pasarelas. Son protagonistas innegables de la próxima temporada, pero comparten escenario con texturas como el vinilo y neopreno, y suaves telas escocesas.

One thing is for sure: our men won't be cold next winter. Textures and fabrics speak for themselves, so let's leave them to do all the talking.

It's black, it's shiny and it's a clear trend for AW15. Combined with fur, in the shape of shiny, brilliantly worked leather, on it's own with a strong 80s vibe, or with a chic touch to it, few designers could resist to including some vinyl dreams in their collections.

Es negro, es brillante y es una tendencia indiscutible para la temporada OI-15. Combinada con pelo, en forma de cuero brillantemente trabajado, solo y al estilo de los 80, o con un toque chic, pocos diseñadores han podido resistir la tentación de incluir sueños de vinilo en sus colecciones.

the Scottish touch: tartan

This iconic fabric once reserved to Scottish families' kilts, is nowadays one of the best known fashion statements and a recurrent inspiration for both menswear and womenswear designers. Delighted to see that next season will be plagued with tartan prints in tops and bottoms, and imprinted in a variety of fabrics.

Esta icónica tela, una vez reservada a los kilts de los clanes escoceses, es hoy en día uno de los elementos de moda más reconocidos e inspiración recurrente para colecciones de hombre y mujer por igual. Encantada estoy de anunciar que la próxima estación viene plagada de estampados tartán en multitud de telas y texturas.

Two shades are going to tint gents' wardrobes next season, following two opposite but perfectly complementing trends: Waterworld Blues and Rusty Copper.

It is no wonder why rust becomes truly inspiring when it comes to creating the palette for a collection: the variety of tones, the wide range spectrum; from deep, fiery reds to ocres, browns, bright yellows... It is warm, autumnal and yet allows thousands of possibilities. A true delight for next season.

No es difícil adivinar por qué el óxido resulta verdaderamente inspirador en lo que respecta a crear una paleta de color para una colección: la variedad de tonos, el amplio espectro de posibilidades; desde los profundos y ardientes rojos a los ocres, tierra de Siena, marrones, amarillos vibrantes... The reminiscence of the 90s is vibrant and pulsing all over the fashion sphere. Everybody from designers, to celebrities, to fashionistas are embracing the most practical ramification of the most classic garment: the culotte.

Although this piece was an undeniable hit in the late 80s and early 90s, we need to go all the way back to the mid 19th century to find it's origin. Back then, the so called bloomers (predecessors of today's culotte), were born to conciliate womenswear with the impracticality of skirts and gowns for sports and everyday activities like riding bikes. They were quickly dismissed, as the look of them was definitely flagged as aesthetically unpleasant (they looked somewhat like harem pants, and back then that was considered horrendous on a Western woman).

La reminiscencia de los 90 vibra intensamente por la esfera de la moda. Desde diseñadores hasta celebrities y fashionistas están adoptando la rama más práctica de una prenda clásica: la falda pantalón.

Aunque esta prenda fue un hit indudable de finales de los 80 y principios de los 90, hemos de retroceder hasta mediados del siglo XIX para encontrar su origen. Por entonces, las llamadas bloomers (antecesoras de la falda-pantalón actual) nacieron en un intento de conciliar la poco práctica vestimenta femenina de faldas largas con la realización de actividades deportivas y otras actividades diarias, como montar en bicicleta. Fueron descartadas rápidamente y tachadas de estéticamente desagradables (se asemejaban a los pantalones harem, que entonces eran considerados espantosos en una mujer occidental).

It was only towards the 1910s that the culotte trend started getting acceptance amongst mass public. Abandoning the original baggy pant look that made them so impopular, culottes started getting reshaped and redesigned with a true purpose: making movement an easy, flawless task for women. Designer Elsa Schiaparelli came up with the first design of this garment that comes close to what nowadays we would call a skort; she designed a gorgeous pair of bermuda pants covered by a skirt for friend tennis player Lili Álvarez, who starred it at Wimbledon.

No fue hasta 1910 que la falda-pantalón empezó a recibir la aceptación del gran público. Abandonando su original estilo baggy que las hizo tan poco populares, las faldas-pantalón se reformaron y rediseñaron con un propósito inequívoco: hacer del movimiento una tarea sencilla y cómoda para las mujeres. La diseñadora Elsa Schiaparelli creó el primer diseño de falda-pantalón que se asemeja a lo que hoy en día conocemos; diseñó un precioso par de pantalones bermudas cubiertos por una falda. La destinataria de esta innovadora prenda fue Lili Álvarez, tenista que se estrenaba en Wimbledon.

Since then, the culotte and skorts have evolved a bunch and had their ups and downs, but gear up for this autumn winter 2014, as they are coming back, and coming strong.

Desde entonces, la falda-pantalón y los skorts (shorts + falda) han evolucionado mucho y han tenido sus altibajos, pero prepárate para este otoño invierno 2014, porque vuelven con fuerza.

The longer versions of the skorts come ready to take over winter, shamelessly throwing perfectly gorgeous gowns over flawless pairs of trousers. Culottes are a must for the upcoming season and starred on catwalks on the main cities. Going from the monochrome look, to opposite colours, leather and sempiternal black, the new-age culottes are here (and hopefully to stay).

Las versiones largas de los skorts vienen para llevarse de calle el invierno, arrojando sin ninguna vergüenza preciosas faldas y vestidos sobre inmaculados pares de pantalones. Las faldas-pantalón son un must para la próxima temporada y así lo han demostrado las pasarelas de las principales ciudades. Desde el look monocromático a colores opuestos, cuero y el sempiterno negro, las faldas-pantalón de la nueva era han llegado (y esperemos que para quedarse).

Without a shadow of a doubt, the reigning trend over all catwalks, all four fashion weeks, every stage was tinted red for AW14. From its most vibrant and sharp shades to matte burgundies and wines, next winter we will have to paint all white roses red.

Sin duda alguna, la tendencia reinante en todas las pasarelas, desde Nueva York a París, cada escenario se ha teñido de rojo para el OI-14. Desde sus tonalidades más vibrantes e intensas hasta borgoñas y vinos mate, el próximo invierno tendremos que pintar todas las rosas rojas.

Many different textures like satin, gauze, chiffon and lace for potent reds and more rigid and firm materials tinted in burgundy, like leather or velvet.

The absolute monarch, the colour of passion and strenght, a reflection of fierce, decisive attitude that designers have envisioned for women on the upcoming season. The colour that runs through our veins and now will also flood the streets of our cities.

Muchas texturas diferentes como el satén, gasa, chiffon y encaje encarnan los rojos potentes, mientras que los burdeos y berenjena se materializan en tejidos como el terciopelo o el cuero.
El monarca absoluto, el color de la pasión y la fuerza, un reflejo de la actitud feroz y decisiva que los diseñadores han visualizado para la mujer en la próxima estación. El color que corre por nuestras venas ahora también correrá por las calles de nuestras ciudades.

The rainiest fashion week has begun! Starting on lovers day can only be a good sign, awaiting to see some really interesting proposals like the ones we have already got from Felder Felder or Jean-Pierre Braganza.

Not to forget the juicy trends that NYFW left us with, so here is a little summary to refresh your memory.

La semana de la moda más lluviosa ha comenzado. Arrancar en el día de los enamorados sólo puede ser una buena señal, esperando ver propuestas muy interesantes como las que ya nos han dejado Felder Felder o Jean-Pierre Braganza.

No hay que olvidar las tendencias tan jugosas que nos ha dejado la NYFW, de modo que he aquí un resumen para refrescar la memoria.

It's only been a week of NYFW and there is already a clear upcoming trend that we could have never expected and yet we are sure going to enjoy; it is what I call the Olympia trend.

Now what is that? I am borrowing the name from Manet's impressionist painting Olympia, which portraits a girl lying on a chaise-longue with nothing on but a thin black bow tied around her neck.

Sólo llevamos una semana de NYFW y ya podemos hablar de una tendencia emergente, inesperada y que no obstante seguro que adoraremos; la que yo he decidido llamar tendencia Olympia.

Bien, ¿de qué va esta tendencia? Tomando prestado el nombre del cuadro impresionista de Manet Olympia, en el que vemos a una joven echada en un chaise-longue llevando tan solo un finísimo lazo negro alrededor de su cuello a modo de gargantilla.

In one of my recent posts, I talked about how inspiration is essential when it comes to forecasting. Well, today I will mention how important history is as well.

Human kind is nothing without its background, and future is not possible without the knowledge from the past. When it comes to fashion, it is exactly the same, if not more frequent and clear. Allow me to illustrate my thoughts:

En uno de mis posts más recientes, hablaba de cómo la inspiración es esencial cuando se trata de predecir tendencias. Bien, hoy mencionare la importancia de la historia.
La humanidad no es nada sin su contexto, y el avance futuro resultaría imposible sin el conocimiento acumulado del pasado. En lo que a moda se refiere, sucede exactamente igual, si no más frecuente y obviamente. Procedo a ilustrar mi disertación:

The stunning collection from Juan Carlos Obando presented yesterday at NYFW included a few pieces that made me (inevitably) recall that extremely iconic collection from Spring 2011 that Frida Giannini designed for Gucci. Notable similarities that configure two absolutely gorgeous pieces.

Trend expert Geraldine Wharry mentioned the phenomenon of fashion history repeating itself in one of her recent articles.

La maravillosa colección presentada ayer por Juan Carlos Obando ayer en la NYFW incluía algunos looks que me hicieron (inevitablemente) recordar aquella tan icónica colección de Primavera 2011 que Frida Giannini diseñara para Gucci. Similitudes notables que configuran dos bellísimas piezas.
La experta en tendencias Geraldine Wharry mencionaba el fenómeno de la redundancia de la historia de la moda en uno de sus más recientes artículos.
